About Jackson – Old Hickory Rotary Club

Who we are

The Jackson Old Hickory Rotary Club was sponsored by the Jackson Rotary Club on March 2, 1979 and celebrated its Charter Night on the Campus of Lambuth College. The club originally met at The Hut (1979) on Highland Avenue, and then moved three years to the Holiday Inn (1980-83) located off the by-pass and I-40; later met at the Ramada Inn (1983-1993) before moving to the Holiday Inn (formerly Wilson World) till the late 90’s.  The Jackson Old Hickory Rotary Club has made its home at the Double Tree Hotel located on the 45 by-pass for approximately twenty years.

The Jackson Old Hickory Rotary Club is a member of Rotary International a worldwide organization of 1.4 million members in 40,000 Rotary Clubs in over 200 countries with the mission to build world understanding, goodwill and peace through humanitarian projects and educational programs.

Jackson has three Rotary Clubs:

The Jackson Old Hickory, Jackson Good Evening, and Jackson Rotary Club which celebrates over 100 years of service in West Tennessee.

The club has partnered within its organization in successfully hosting Youth Exchange Students, Professional Exchange Teams, and Ambassadorial Scholars.

The Jackson Old Hickory Rotary Club has assisted Rotary District 6760 of West and Middle Tennessee to send or received approximately 300 students to 19 countries as Youth Exchange students and 63 Ambassadorial Scholars and GSE teams to 23 countries over the past 4 decades.

The Jackson Old Hickory Rotary Club has helped host four Rotary International Presidents (RI Presidents: James Lacy, Glen Kinross, Ray Klinginsmith, and John Germ) in our community in the last twenty-five years.

The Jackson Old Hickory Rotary Club donates annually to The Rotary Foundation’s Paul Harris Fellow recognition. It’s a way of expressing its appreciation for a substantial contribution to its humanitarian and educational programs.  It is named for our founder, Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer who started Rotary International with three business associates in 1905.

Rotarians often designate a Paul Harris Fellow as a tribute to a person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives of The Rotary Foundation.  The Jackson Old Hickory Rotary Club has been recognized as a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club.

A world of peace and goodwill comes closer to reality today as this person becomes a Paul Harris Fellow.  It is because of gifts like the ones made in honor of this newest Paul Harris Fellow that The Rotary Foundation is able to carry out an array of programs that achieve beneficial changes in our world:  Improved living conditions, increased food production, better education, wider availability of treatment and rehabilitation for the sick and disabled, new channels for the flow of international understanding and brighter hopes for peace; not to mention the effort to eradicate polio worldwide.
